Fire The Night

There is a point in every Underground showcase where the crowd thinks it has seen the ceiling. The drift cars have been sideways, the smoke has built, the noise has found its level.
Then someone mounts a pyrotechnic cannon on a moving drift car and takes it back out.
The Mercedes, red and magenta anime wrap, yellow wheels, mid-drift on cobblestone came through with a fireworks launcher on the roof firing a full cascade of sparks into the night while the rear tyres held their angle and a second car ran the same line behind it. The smoke from the tyres and the sparks from the cannon met somewhere in the middle of the frame and the photograph found its moment without anyone asking it to.
This is not a stunt that was designed in a meeting. This is what happens when the people running the show are the same people who live it when the instinct is always to push past whatever the last thing was.
Underground has always operated on that logic. The event that started in a Pune basement, that moved to open grounds, that took itself to Guwahati and Ahmedabad. It keeps arriving somewhere new and finding a way to make the previous edition look like the warmup.
